A Baja Race

February 17, starting around 7 am ish (we woke to the vehicles engine noises) there was a Baja race. The drivers took off from Las Palmas- downtown Los Barriles, 2 miles from our place. It was a time trial race- about 6 hrs average to run the course.

Here's our pictures:

The track crossed the road to the K hall 3 times. The brothers told us to leave early & BE CAREFUL. A few friends have scary stories about almost getting hit as they were trying to drive in past years. In this pict. we were sitting in traffic waiting for a break in the racers- you can see one above- the orange vehicle with the dust behind it. This area is normally pretty deserted at this time Sunday morning- but all day it was jammed with spectators & racers!

Mike, Melanie, and Us go to La Ribera after the meeting to watch.

These kids were loving it. They would run out and put toys for the vehicles to hit and flatten when there was a break in racers.

Yes, they are going very fast. Yes, there are no rules re. how close a spectator can be. Yes, it was probably a little dangerous.
A little farther up (where the dust is- before the pavement starts) there is a little jump and most vehicles would jump it a foot or two- it was fun to watch.

Mike took this - that is us right behind the Truck!

Why did the chicken cross the road? LOL I thought for sure these 2 were going to bite it but they got out of the way in time.
On our way home from La Ribera we saw this truck that we had just watched go by in La Ribera on the street.
We have no idea who won but it sure livened up our little area. :)
