Hi Everybody!
Our internet connection seems a little more reliable this week so I am going to try to do a new post today with pictures from the last month. If it doesn't appear it is because our internet decided to quit again! We are all 3 doing very well (Jake, Andie, and I). Jake gives his first talk on the school this week, I have one next week. We had a visit from our English group's traveling overseer 2 weeks ago- it was a very fun and busy week. This past Sunday there was a going away party for 2 couples moving this month- we will be so sad to see them go. We feel very fortunate to have such close friends here already, and being busy and spending so much time with all of them has helped us happily start building our new life. Don't get me wrong- we do miss everyone from back in the states!!
*This is an Andie update- *skip ahead if you don't care about how our dog is doing*
Andie is enjoying her retirement immensely, every morning around 6 am she wakes me up to take her for a walk on the beach. She has discovered that whenever she jumps into the white part of the breaking wave it goes away, then comes back to challenge her. Sometimes I have to drag her away from the beach- she loves it. She has also made a friend!!! Simone & Cody's schnauzer Finn, is her good association. He is obedient and smart enough not to follow her into trouble, or let her push him around. She hasn't even been in a fight with him once! The weather changed yesterday and is cold & windy so right now she is huddled on my lap, wearing her pajamas. I think she is going to love the summers here- she can't get enough of the sun and warmth.
*Andie update over*
I know 99% of you don't want to hear about our weather here, or how "it's turned a bit chilly". LOL So I won't say anything more about it....
The cows are having babies! We have cows around the property we live on every day. ( Cows here are left to roam to find food, so if you don't want animals eating your garbage and plants its your responsibility to fence them out of your property. Its basically the opposite of the midwest in the States- cows are fenced in there, fenced out here. ) The calves are so cute, but one ran in front of my car the other day and I almost hit it!
The whales should be here soon, I have not seen any yet, or heard of any sightings but the whale sharks are in La Paz this time of year and so the rest (humpback, gray, orca) should be on their way. Seeing them is a really fun part of living here, so we are looking forward to that.
Jake bought 3 huge grapefruit for .30- together, not each- and a dozen oranges for $1 yesterday-again, not each. That is the most expensive they are this time of year here. On the flip side a small chobani yogurt that is a day or 2 from expiring (one of 3 places in the entire baja to carry chobani - every once in awhile anyway, is in this town!) is about $3, and don't even get me started on pickles and cheese. Plain Fritos don't exist, and a small carton (lees than 30 oz.) of Hagan Daz ice cream is $16 or more. I don't even like Hagan Daz!
So anyway, we are adjusting to life here, its going as well as adjusting can! However, we do feel as if we have lived here a long time already, and there are many things we are loving about our new home.
